st Bavarian Infantry Regiment. John ended the war wounded

in hospital, remained in the new Reichswehr

and with the beginning of World War II he as an Oberstleutnant was Operations Officer in the Army Weapons Office until 01-01-1940. He then was commander of the II Battalion of 203
rd Infantry Regiment and transferred into the 36
th Infantry Regiment to 06-05-1940. John was in the Führer Reserve

nd Infantry Division was nearly surrounded in Russia, but continued to conduct a fighting retreat (though reduced to Kampfgruppe level) along with the remainder of Fourty Army
