Einthoven, Louis.

Einthoven, Louis, born 30-03-1896 in Soerabaja, Indonesia, son of Johan Einthoven, Director of Home Affairs in the Dutch East Indies, and Wilhelmina Cornelia Louise van der Kemp. Married on 29-4-1925 to Angenis Jeannetta Reiniera Willemina Schuil. From this marriage 3 sons were born.

The family went to Holland (see Jan Ackermans) end 1933 and Louis became the Police Chief in Rotterdam. He hated politic and the many Chinese civilians in his city and wanted to move all superfluous, who had no rights, back to their country. Investigation prove that Einthoven had already contacts with the Gestapo in the early thirties. With the outbreak of World War II he together with Jan de Quay,  later Dutch Minister President and Hans Linthorst Homan raised the Nederlandse Union.   It should be a party as compition for the NSB, National Socialist Movement  the party of Anton Mussert

.  Upon the surrender of Germany, Mussert was arrested at the NSB office in The Hague on 7 May 1945. He was convicted of high treason on 28 November after a two day trial, and was sentenced to death on 12 December. He appealed to Queen Wilhelmina for clemency. She refused. On 07-05-1946, 4 days before his 52^nd birthday, Mussert was executed by a firing squad on the Waalsdorpervlakte,  a site near The Hague, where hundreds of Dutch citizens had been put to death by the Nazi regime. As a parliamentary party participating in legislative elections, the NSB had some success during the 1930s. It remained the only legal party  in the Netherlands during most of World War II, protected by the Nazis. Linthorst was pro German and Einthoven disliked that intense and when at the beginning of 1941 the first pro German articles appeared in the issue “de Unie”, Einthoven retreated from the Union.   In June 1941 he reactivated in the Union but the Union was forbidden by the occupier, on 14-12-1941. Einthoven was captured by the Germans and in the prison camp in St Michielsgestel in 1942, he was liberated in 1944, during Operation Market Garden. He came in contact with Prins Bernard von Lippe Biestervelt and later with Queen Wilhelmina in London. The Dutch Minister President in London, Pieter Sjoerds Gerbrandy wanted to give him a minister post but he refused. After the war he was the leader of the Office of National Security, renamed in the Interior Security Service (BVD) in 1946.

Einthoven retired in 1961 and died at the old age of 83, on 29-05-1979, in Lunteren and is buried with his wife Angenis Jeanetta Reineira Willemina Schuil who died age 54 in 1979 , in a familie grave, on the cemetery Oud Eik en Duin in Den Hague, Holland. (see About). The couple married on 29-04-1925 and had three boys, Dolf, Han en Henk.
