Janovec, John Anthony, born 09-07-1925, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, United States, to Anton Janovec, (1884-1946) and his wife Zuzana “Susie”, born Figura Janovec (1885-1959).  brother of four sisters, Bessie Triska, Wilma Motis, Irene Baker, and  Antoinette.Janovec

John served with Company E (Easy), 2nd Battalion, under command of Lieytenant General Sink, Robert Frederick “Bounding Bob”.

506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division under command of Major General Maxwell Davenport Taylor,

  during World War II.

Janovec was assigned to the unit prior to Operation Market Garden, where he was a liberator of my hometown Eindhoven

and why the webmaster has  so much interest in the Easy Company boys, read. John did not see much combat. Captain Ronald “Sparky” Speirs once caught him having sex with a German woman, but he chose to ignore the matter. Captain Speirs survived the war and on 11-04-2007, Ronald Speirs passed away at the age of 86.

Later, while traveling in a convoy through Germany, Janovec told Sergeant George Luz

about why they were fighting the Germans. He quoted, “Apparently the Germans are bad,” to which the sarcastic Luz parodied him as Sergeant Frank Joseph Perconte.

Frank Perconte also survived the war and died 24-10-2013 (age 96) in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, USA

Janovec, 16-05-1945, age 19, was killed  in a car accident after being relieved by Private David Kenyon “Web” Webster

while guarding an intersection and checking the papers of passing German civilians and soldiers.

He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, Cook County, Illinois, VS, Section Laurel Section; S’9 673; Part 6 Grave 2.
