Kingman, Allen, born 18-12-1893, in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, the son of George Metcalf Kingman and Clara, born Gardner. Allen had one brother the Army Brigadier General John Jennings Kingman ( 1882-1948) who served in both world wars and was awarded military honors by half a dozen foreign countries. Allen had one brother Metcalf Kingman. Allen was commissioned as a second lieutenant of infantry and served on the Mexican border during the U.S. effort to capture Pancho Villa
in 1916-1917. In World War I, he went to France with the 16thInfantry of the 1st Division
, under General Stanley Hamer Ford,
who died old age 83, on 19-01-1961, the first unit to land in France. Kingman was appointed as instructor at the Command and General Staff School from 1934 until 1938. In World War II, Kingman served as the Commanding Officer of the 67th Armored Regiment Combat Command from 1942 to 1943 and from 1943 as Commanding General with the 2nd Armored Division, nickname “Hell on Wheels”
. In 238 battle days, the 2nd Armored suffered 7.348 casualties, including 1.160 killed in action. The division was recognized for distinguished service and bravery with 9.369 individual awards, including two Medals of Honor, twenty-three Distinguished Service Crosses, and 2.302 Silver Stars as well as nearly 6.000 Purple Hearts; among those receiving the silver star were Douglas MacArthur,

Bowerman negotiated a stand-down of German forces near the Brenner Pass in the days before the surrender of the German Army in all of Italy. Rags was a Cairn Terrier mix who served as the mascot of the 1st Infantry Division during World War I. He “joined up” in 1917 in France and held his title until his death in 1931. Rags was recruited by Private James Donovan,
who found himself AWOL after overstaying his leave in Montremere. The division was twice cited by the Belgian Government and division soldiers for the next 50 years proudly wore the fourragere of the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
Bowerman died old age 88, on 24-12-1999. Kingman retired in 1953 as a Brigadier General. During his 36 years in the Army, Kingman received the Legion of Merit,
the Bronze Star, the Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart. France honored him with the Croix De Guerre with Palm for bravery in combat, and he received the Brazilian War Medal.

Allan Frederic Kingman died very old age 94, on 01-08-1988 in Chapel Hill, N.C, and is buried on Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, Orange County, North Carolina, USA.
