Halberstadt, Karl, born 30-01-1897, Gotha, Bavaria , joined the Army as a Fahnenjunker in the 79th Infantry Regiment, on 17-06-1915, age 18. He was in the fields of the first war and retired on 31-05-1920 and served in the Police Service. Halberstadt was transferred to the Luftwaffe Service on 01-08-1935, with the Staff of Flak Battalion Gotha. With the outbreak of World War II he was Battalion Commander in the 33rd Flak Regiment, to 14-02-1940. Following commander of the 50th Flak Regiment to 30-04-1941 and commander of the Air Region Flak Artillery School XII/XIII in Kitzingen, to 14-04-1942. Next command was of the 79th Flak Regiment until 28-02-1943 and of the Flak Brigade XVIII until 06-05-1945. Karl Halberstadt then landed in British captivity and was released on 27-02-1948.
Halberstadt D.II was also the name of a biplane fighter aircraft developed and manufactured for the first world war, by German aircraft company Halberstädter Flugzeugwerke.

Living in Kitzingen he at the age of 75 died, on 22-07-1972 and is buried on the Neuer Friedhof of Kitzingen, alas his stone is removed and the grave has new owners now. On the Old cemetery in Kitzingen,
is buried General der Infanterie, Chef Wehrwirtschaftsstab Ost, Otto Stapf.
