Dittrich, Rudolph Reinhold “Rudy” born 28-03-1924, in Muldoon, Fayette County, Texas, United States, to Anna C, born Ripper .and Ferdinand J. Rudy had one brother Otto Ferdinand Dittrich (1918–2008) Otto enlisted in the United States Army 01-06-1942 and served with the 81st Infantry Division nickname “Wildcat” under command of Major General Paul John Mueller

  in the Pacific and was awarded the Silver Star. He was honorably discharged 01-12-1945. Otto servived the war and died 10-05-2008 (age 89) in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas,

Rudy joined 506th Easy Company of the 101 Airborne Divivison at Camp Toccoa, their original training camp. He travelled to England with the unit in preparation for the invasion of Normandy. On 20-03-1944, Easy were participating in a night time training exercise.

  Rudy was killed 20-05-1944 (age 20) in a parachute training accident, in Hermitage, West Berkshire Unitary Authority, Berkshire, England. when his parachute malfunctioned on exiting the plane and did not catch the air and so did not open. Darrell Clay “Shifty” Powers  recalls ” . We were all real sobered about the loss. I felt sad for his family, and it caused me to remember the seriousness of what we were doing” Rudy is featured in the Band of Brothers episode Currahee, where he remarks on the Italian feast the men have been given “This stuff’s orange, spaghetti ain’t supposed to be orange”. He was also to feature in an unused scene where the men bet on whether the not very popular Captain Sr, Herbert Maxwell.Sobel can pass his fitness test.
