Moon, Don Pardee, born 18-04-1894, in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana, United States
to Barnabas C. Moon (1861–1923)
and his wife Ellen Pearl, born Bennett Duckwall (1871–1948)
. Don had two sisters and two brothers, Ruth Moon Marsh (1898-1995),
Bernice Donahue Moorman (1896–1968),
Richard Davis Moon (1900–1963)
and Gilbert B. Moon (1905–1923).
Don was married with Sibyl Peaslee, born Hall, Moon (1899-1988) and the couple had four children. Meredith, Don P
, David, and Peter. Don was the president of Shimer College from 1978 to 2004, and has been on the faculty of Shimer College since 1967.
Don Pardee
entered the United States Naval Academy and later graduated fourth in the Class of 1916,
being particularly efficient in gunnery. Don was assigned to the battleship Arizona (BB-39)
and while there developed several instruments to improve gunnery. He later served in the battleships Colorado (BB-45)
and Nevada (BB-36)
before returning to shore duty in 1926. By 1934 Moon was commanding officer of the Asiatic Fleet destroyer John D. Ford (DD-228). 
Moon was later put in command of a destroyer division in 1940 and became a captain in 1941. He took part in the invasion of North Africa in 1942. In 1944 he was promoted to rear admiral. He commanded Exercise Tiger,
a rehearsal for D-Day in which three LSTs, A Landing Ship, Tank,
were torpedoed and sunk by German E-boats near Slapton Sands.

During the June 6, 1944, invasion of Normandy
Moon directed the landings on Utah Beach from the attack transport Bayfield (APA-33).
For three weeks the Bayfield was in position off Utah Beach
and officers and men were on four-hour rotating shifts for this entire time. Shortly afterwards the Bayfield was sent to Naples for the invasion of Southern France. However, on 05-08-1944, Moon, age 50, shot himself with his .45 caliber pistol. His suicide was attributed to battle fatigue. Moon was posthumously decorated with Legion of Honour
by the Government of France.
Moon, Don Pardee is buried with his wife, who died in 1988, on the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, VS, Section 11, Site 809..
