Lavenson, George., born 26-03-1917, in Jenkintown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States, to Jay Herzberg Lavenson and Carolyn M Lavenson. George Lavenson had two brothers, George Lavenson en James Lavenson. 1st Lieutenant. Lavenson enlisted 21-11-1941 at Fort Meade, Maryland.
1st Lieutenant George Lavenson was with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment , in the 101st Airborne Division
of the United States Army during World War II. Service nr O-1286510. He served as S-1 for the Battalion.
He was married soon before he shipped off to England. His wife did not remarry for many years, but was a major volunteer for the Red Cross.

He jumped on Normandy, June 6th, 44. On June 12-06-1944, George Lavenson was seriously wounded to Carentan right before the battle of Carentan (10 and 15 June 1944). age 27. He was treated in the field hospital close to Utah Beach, then medevaced to England. Flying back to the United States, the Red Cross hospital plane he and 21 others were on was shot down, somewhere off the coast of Nova Scotia, probably by a German U-boat that had a habit of sending SOS signals, then shooting planes that would fly low to see if they could help. Medical air evacuation revolutionized the care of the wounded. General. Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower credited air evacuation, sulfa drugs, penicillin, and the use of plasma and whole blood as key factors in the significant drop in the mortality rate among the wounded from World War I to World War II. The aircraft went down between Iceland and Newfoundland. 19 patients, 1 flight nurse, and a crew of 5 were lost, not one never to be found, also the wreckage was never found.
