Neil Bosworth “Chick” Harding, born 03-02- 1905, in Bevery,
West Virginia, to Clare Wilmoth Harding (1872–1948) and his wife Ada See Bosworth Harding (1875–1971)
. Neil had three sisters, Mildred Harding (1902–1994),
Elizabeth Lyle Harding Frame (1907–1970) and Josephine French Harding Baker (1914–1951). Neil was married with Doris Dale, born Johnston Harding (1913–1986)

The couple had one daughter, Helen Harding Wynne:
Neil graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point,
Class of 1927, and was a famed football coach for the Army. He took over Command of the 100th Bomb Group
from 02 -07-1943, from Colonel Harold Quiskie Huglin
and remained C.O. until March 07-03-1944, when he was sent Stateside for gall stones. He had been suffering for weeks but simply refused to report to the medics. He arrived home in April 1944 and spent six weeks in Walter Reed hospital.
Prior to World War II Harding also flew one of the original
that took part in a goodwill tour of South America in February 1938, in the company of such air greats as General Curtis E. LeMay “Iron Ass”
and WWII fighter pilot Brigade General Robert J Olds,
who also later commanded the 8th Air Force.

Harding was CO at the most difficult time in the Groups History and is beloved by all who served under him. There is no official biography on Chick but he did receive the Silver Star in August 1943 for gallantry leading missions.
Harding, Neil Bosworth “Chick” passed away on 22-04-1978 (age73) in Villanova, Delaware, Pennsylvania and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington, Virginia, United States. Section 60 Site 2599.
