Geißler, Erich, born in 11-12-1895 in Büdingen, after graduating from high school, joined the replacement battalion of the 5th Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 168 on 10-08-1914 as a war volunteer and flag squire; on 22-09-1914, the regiment went into the field, on 05-01-1915 he was badly wounded, recovery lasted until 19-12-1915, only then was he able to return to his regiment’s replacement battalion. On 31-12-1915, now a flag squire, he was transferred to the replacement battalion of the infantry regiment “von Lützow”  (1st Rheinisches) No. 25, on 03-02-1916 he went back to the field. From 28-10-1916 to 14-04-1917 he was an orderly officer in the Rhenish Regiment No. 25 and from 14-04-1917 adjutant in the III. Battalion of the regiment. On 28-04-1917 he was wounded again, he returned to the regiment on14-05-1917.

After the demobilization he was platoon leader in the 8th company of the Freikorps “Lützow” until his departure on 15-05-1920 and after studying, Geissler was reactivated as a leutnant in the Reichswehr on 01-06-1924. After company service, courses at the Dresden Infantry School, a time as a regimental adjutant in the staff of the 15th Infantry Regiment of the Reichswehr in Giessen and the service as chief of the 4th (MG) company of the regiment, he was from 12-10-1937 to 26-08-1939 tactics teacher at the war school in Munich

From 26-08-1939 he was Commander III. Bataillon/Infanterie-Regiment 87, until 13-01-1940). Following from 13-01-1940 commander of the II. Bataillon/Infanterie-Regiment 382 until 21-08-1941) He landed in the Führer-Reserve OKH (21-08-1941 bis 10-09-1941). Appointed to commander of the Regimentsstab z. b. V. 200 from 10-09-1941, to 01-04-1942).Then commander of Infanterie-Regiment (mot.) 200, during 01-04-1942 bis 25-07-1942). Appointed as commander of the Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 200 from 25-07-1942 bis 22-12-1942) and he again landed in the Führer-Reserve OKH during from 22-12-1942 bis 01-05-1943). Erich Geissler was transferred to the Heerespersonalamt, OKH in de period 05-01-1943 bis 07-01-1943). He was with the OKH/Org.E/Tr. from 20-01-1943 bis 01-05-1943). Now appointed to Departement chief with the OKH/Org.E/Tr, from Mai 1943 bis 30-04-1945). His last position was as substitute commander of the new 78nd Volkssturm-Division from 01-05-1945 bis the end of the war.

Death and burial ground of Geißler, Erich.

From 08-05-1945 to 06-10-1955 he was a Soviet prisoner of war, the late returnee was one of the last Germans to return home alive, thanks to the strenght of the Bundes chancellor Konrad  Adenaur,

  Retiring in Oldenburg Geissler, Erich died age 71 and is buried at the Gertrudenfriedhof (Oldenburg), Final grave site: field 2, row 2, line D, grave 11/12.
