Hugo Eichhorn, born 11-02-1911 in Weilmünster, Taunus; was a member of the NSDAP
(member number: 590 774) and entered an SS order castle in 1937. On 06-09-1939 Hugo was assigned to the Waffen-SS
and integrated into the SS Pioneer Battalion 3 of the SS Totenkopf Division.
under command of SS-Gruppenführer Theodor “Papa” Eicke.
In the spring of 1940 Hugo completed a guide course at the Junker School in Tölz,
after which he joined the newly established SS pioneer battalion 5 “Wiking”
under command of SS Obergruppenführer Felix Martin Steiner,
as a junior officer. In December 1940 he was promoted to SS Untersturmführer,
a year later to SS Obersturmführer
and in November 1942 to SS Hauptsturmführer.
After serving as a battalion adjutant, platoon and company commander, Hugo Eichhorn became a Hauptmann in the staff. At the beginning of 1943 he succeeded in repelling a regimental Russian attack with weak forces in the engineer battalion. For this he was awarded the Knight’s Cross
on 15-02-1943. In the same month he became commander of the SS Pioneer Battalion 5.
He led the battalion until he was seriously wounded in the head on 04-09-1944. After his recovery he took over the SS Pioneer Training and Replacement Battalion 1 in Dresden in February 1944. The battalion was expanded to a regiment in September 1944 and commanded by Hugo Eichhorn until the end of the war. In April 1944 he was promoted to
and in April 1945 to SS Obersturmbannführer

After the war Eichhorn went into industry and was involved in various comrades’ organizations. such as the order community of Knight Cross bearers. Hugo Eichhorn survived the war and died 27-05-1992, age 81, in Gedern, Südhessen. He is buried at the local cemetery of Gedern.
