Gerlach, Adolf, born 15-01-1894 in Singlis, District Wetzlar, 
the son of the blast furnace company director Camillo Schulze came here for the 1st Royal Saxon Foot Artillery Regiment No. 12. 
In this Adolf was promoted on 03-11-1913 to ensign. After visiting the war school Danzig, he was promoted to leutnant on 17-06-1914. His license was dated 24-06-1912. As such, he was then used as a battery officer in the 1st Royal Saxon Foot Artillery Regiment No. 12. joined the Army with the outbreak of the first war, as a Fahnenjunker in the 18th Foot Artillery Regiment, on 10-08-1914, age 20. Gerlach ended the war as the Company Leader with the 150th Foot Artillery Regiment. He remained in the Police Service 
of the new 10 Divisions Reichswehr. Eight Infantry and two calvalry Divisions. On 26-09-1938 he married Margarete Guillot. This marriage sprang two children, a son and a daughter. On 01-11- 1938 he was appointed Commander of the 1st Division of the Flak Regiment 25. As such, he was promoted to Oberstleutnant on 01-01-1939. On 01-04-1939 he was transferred as such to the staff of the Flak Regiment 4. There he received his training as a regimental commander in the next two months. On 01-06-1939 he was appointed as successor to Oberst Oskar Bertram 
commander of the Flak Regiment 4 in Dortmund. At the end of August 1939 he was appointed by the renaming of his staff to commander of the Flak group Dortmund. In February 1940 he gave his command to Oberst Ernst Bachmann. Apparently he was then transferred to the Führerreserve. With the beginning of World War II he joined Herman Göring’s Luftwaffe (did you know) 
as commander of the Flak Group Eifel, until 23-11-1939. Gerlach was successievely commander of Flak Group, Bochum, Cologne and Euskirchen, until 17-05-1940. Commander of the 40th Flak Regiment and the 180th Flak Regiment in Rumania until 25-11-1941, placed to the disposal of the 8th Flak Replacement Battalion and commander of the 42nd Flak Regiment to 02-09-1941. Commander of the 39th Flak Regiment to 11-11-1941 and of the 14th Flak Division to 08-05-1945 he succeeded Generalmajor der 14th Flak Division,

who died age 68, on 16-07-1944 in Hamburg and Gerlach landed in Allied captivity to 12-05-1947.

After the war he lived in Bonn where he at the age of 59 died, on 14-05-1953. Adolf Gerlach is buried with his wife Annamaria, born Weckmann, who died age 82, one day after her birthday on 06-01-1986, on the Südfriedhof of Bonn, the Generalleutnant der Flieger, Military Replacement Inspector Leipzig, Victor Krocker
and Generalleutnant der Infanterie, Kommandeur 16th Heeresgruppe, Hermann Fischer 
are buried close by.
