Ihssen, Hugo, born 16-11-1887 in Cologne, Rheinland,
the son of Major Hermann Louis Ernst Franz Ihssen, an infantry officer, and his wife Amalie Emilie Auguste Rudolphine Martha, born von Lengerke, joined the German Empire Army
as a Fahnenjunker in the 4th Foot Artillery Regiment on 24-02-1906, age 18.Hugo was assigned to the Magdeburg Foot Artillery Regiment “Encke” No. 4. There, he was promoted to second lieutenant on 16-10-1906. After attending the War College, he was promoted to first lieutenant on 16-08-1907. The commission was dated 14-02-1906. In this capacity, he was now assigned as a company officer to the 5th Company of his regiment. By the winter of 1908–09 at the latest, he was transferred to the 6th Company of his regiment in the same capacity. On 31-10-1909, his father died in Hanover.
Hugo was in the fields of the first war and ended the war as commander of the 1st Battalion of the 11th Reserve Foot Artillery Regiment.
He was allowed in the new Reichswehr
and placed to disposal of the Army on 01-08-1938. Commander of the 2nd Replacement Regiment to 16-11-1939 and commander of the 70th Artillery Regiment, to 01-11-1940. He was taken ill into the Führer Reserve (see Adolf Hitler) (did you know)
from 01-11-1940 until 18-08-1941, nine months. Hugo was appointed to Field Equipment Command III to 18-12-1942 and until 26-02-1943 again in the Führer Reserve.
Then detached to the Commander of POW’s in Military District Command XII, until 18-08-1941. Now detached to the Course of POW Matters, in Vienna to 31-03-1943. His son Helmut died in battle, age 26 in 1943. Commander of POW’s Military District XX
to 08-05-1945 and in Allied captivity.

Released on 15-03-1946 Ihssen lived in Bremen where he at the old age of 83 died on 31-08-1971. Hugo Ihssen is buried with his wife Hete, born Cosack, who died age 83 on 31-08-1971, on the local cemetery of Dohnsen.
