Bomber Wing and was the Commander of the III Group in the 76th
Bomber Wing, until 25-02-1940. Assigned as commander of Air Region Troops in the XVII Air Region until his captivity on 08-05-1945.

He was in US captivity until his death on 12-03-1947, age 55. Hofmann is buried on the war cemetery of Traunstein.
