Frenking, Hermann, born 16-09-1894 in Hagen, Westfalen , entered the Army on 21-06-1914 as a Fähnrich, age 19, in the 158th Infantry Regiment. Hermann was on the fields of the first war and received both the Iron Crosses . Frenking remained in the Reichswehr and as a Oberstleutnant he is involved in World War II. He was assigned with the command of the 123rd Infantry Regiment of the 50th Infantry Division  under command of Generalleutnant Konrad Sorsche  and on the battlefields of France, Greece and the invasion of Russia . Commander of the 50th is Generaloberst der Infanterie, Oberbefehlhaber der 6th ArmeeKarl Adolf Hollidt. Promoted to Oberst, Frenking is the second soldier of the 50th Infantry Division to receive the Iron Cross, on 15-12-1941. He lost his command of the 123rd and lands for five months in the Führer Reserve (see Adolf Hitler) (did you know). On 15-06-1942 he becomes commander of the 512th Infantry Regiment of the 293rd Infantry Division.
The 293rd Infantry Division was formed on 08-02-1940 and suffered heavy losses on the Eastern Front. The remnants of the division served as the basis of the 359th Infantry Division and the Divisions-Gruppe 293.
Frenking is again in the Reserve from 25-04-1943 until 12-08-1943 and is for three days the commander of the 294th Infantry Division, under the 6th Army in Russia. The 294th Infantry Division was a German infantry division that participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia. The 294th Infantry Division was amalgamated with the 513th Infantry Regiment to create the 513th Grenadier Regiment, on 15-10-1942. The division was destroyed by the end of August 1944 during the Soviet Jassy–Kishinev Offensive and its commander killed. The second Jassy–Kishinev operation, named after the two major cities, Iași (“Jassy”) and Chișinău (“Kishinev”), in the staging area, was a Soviet offensive against Axis forces, which took place in Eastern Romania from 20 to 29 August 1944 during World War II. The 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts of the Red Army engaged Army Group South Ukraine, which consisted of combined German and Romanian formations, in an operation to reoccupy Bessarabia and destroy the Axis forces in the region, opening the way into Romania and the Balkans.
Commander of the 6th was General Field Marshal, Friedrich Paulus “Der Lord”.
   The 6th Army had the next commanders, Field Marshal, Walther von Reichenau
from the beginning, 10-10-1939 , Reichenau who supported the work of the SS Einsatzgruppen in exterminating the Jews in the occupied Soviet territories very much, died of a heart attack, age 57, on 17-01-1942, Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus from 30-12-1941, General Karl Adolf Hollidt   from 05-03-1943, General der Artillerie, Maximilian de Angelis, from 08-04-1944, he died age 85, on 06-12-1974, in Graz, General der Artillerie, Commander XXX Armee Corps, Maximillian Fretter Pico, from 17-07-1944 and General der Panzertruppe, Kommandeur Heeresgruppe Balck, Hermann Balck from 23-12-1944 until the end on 08-05-1945. On 01-12-1943 promoted to Generalmajor with the command of the 282nd Infantry Division  , where he succeeded General Wilhelm Kohler  Kohler died age 71, on 25-03-1968, in Bayreuth. Frenking lands in Soviet captivity on 20-08-1944 and was released on 07-01-1956, by intervention of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.

   Frenking couldn’t enjoy of his liberty too long, as he died four months later, at the age of 61, on 13-05-1956, in Münster. He is buried on the Zentralfriedhof of Münster, close to the grave of WWII Generalleutnant der Flieger, Kommandeur Luftflotte Gruppe 6, Heinz Funcke.
