Donat, Hans Hugo Wilhelm Bernhard von, born on 06-01-1891 in Stuttgart,
the son of the Württemberg Oberstleutnant Hugo von Donat (1847–1927) and his wife Marie, born Brückmann (1864–1958). Hugo also had an older brother and a younger sister.

Hugo also had an older brother and a younger sister.Hugo entered the Army service as a Fähnrich in the 3rd Railway Regiment on 14-03-1911, 20 years old. Donat wasn’t a battlefield soldier during the first war and all the time a Railway commander. With the outbreak of World War II he was commander of the 68th Railway Pioneer Regiment. He became a Generalmajor on 01-11-1941 and promoted to Generalleutnant on 01-01-1944. The youngest Generalleutnant in WWII, with 36, was Theodor Tolsdorff .
Von Donat served the whole war as a Higher Railway Commander and ended the war as Railway Pioneer Inspector with the Replacement Army. He landed in Allied captivity on 08-05-1945 and was released from prison on 05-06-1947.Death and burial ground of Donat, Hans Hugo Wilhelm Bernhard von.
After the war Hans von Donat, not a spectacular General, lived in Stuttgart where he at the very old age of 100, died on 11-06-1992. He is buried with his wife Maria, on the Prager cemetery in Stuttgart, Donat’s gravestone is seriously threadbare. Only steps from the graves of the WWII Generals, ,
