Grollmuss, Helmut, born on 08-01-1918 in Lissa, at the time in the Province of Posen, a province of the Kingdom of Prussia. Today Lissa is Leszno in western Poland. Following flight training, Grollmus was posted to the Ergänzungsjagdgruppe of Jagdgeschwader 54 (JG 54—54th Fighter Wing), a supplementary training group, in November 1941.under command of Generalleutnant der Luftwaffe. Inspektor der Tagesflieger Trautloft, Johannes “Hannes” Trautloft, Johannes "Hannes"   On 09-03-1942, the Ergänzungsgruppe of JG 54 was disbanded and the pilots were transferred to I. Gruppe (1st group) of JG 54. In consequence, Grollmus was transferred to 2. Staffel of JG 54. As part of a Luftwaffe plan to exchange fighter units operating on the Eastern Front with fighter units flying on the Western Front, Grollmuss was assigned to 12. Staffel of JG 54 under command of Hauptmann Dietrich H “Dieter” Hrabak,

in July 1943 which had been newly formed from elements of 7. Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 26 “Schlageter”  (JG 26—26th Fighter Wing) under command of then Major Adolf  “Dolfo” Josef Ferdinand Galland   and 4. Staffel of JG 54 and was subordinated to II. Gruppe of JG 54.

Grollmuss was killed in action over Viipuri, Finland 19-06-1944, age 26,. He was shot down in his Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-6 during aerial combat with Petlyakov Pe-2 bombers  and Bell P-39 Airacobra fighters in a position 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Viipuri,  Grollmus parachuted out safely but was killed by ground fire. Grollmus is buried in the Helsinki-Hietaniemi Cemetery, Hietaniemenkatu 20, 00100 Helsinki, Finland.

A Pe-2 and a LaGG-3 on 26-08-1943. An La-5 SW of Oster on 07-10-1943. Two Yak-9s on 13-10-1943. Two La-5s and an Il-2 W of Kornin on 29-011-1943. An La-5 and an Il-2 on 24-01-1944. A Yak-9 on 07-03-1944. An Il-2 on 07-04-1944. Two Il-2s on 17-06-1944. His last victories, two P-39s and four Il-2s, before being killed, 19-06-1944. Bowers/Lednicer, 75 victories.
