According to eye-witness Tommy Byers, the pride of Hitler's fleet hoisted a black flag during the furious battle - the naval sign for calling for 'parley' or truce. Bismark view from astern, before her May 1941 breakout to attack Allied shipping. The stern fell off when she turned over on being sunk, due to poor welding.
