Mrugowsky, Joachim Ernst A., born 15-08-1905 in Rathenow/Havel, in a family of Polish descent. His father was also a doctor, who was killed in action in September 1914 during the First World War. In 1923 Joachim passed his Abitur for bank clerk. In 1925 Mrugowsky began a study at the University of Halle in medicine and biology, and in particular in botany. and began his studies of natural sciences and medicine in Halle in 1925. He completed these in 1930-31 with a medical doctorate and a doctorate of natural sciences. as well as passing his medical board examinations. After a two-year internship, he became an assistant at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Halle. Joachim Mrugowsky finished his habilitation in the area of hygiene at the University of Berlin, in 1938, and in September 1944, was made an associate professor there. From 1933 to 1935 Mrugowsky belonged to Department 18 of the Security Service in Halle and, in November 1934, received the ranking of SS Second Leutnant. In 1938, he was made a Oberst and promoted to the staff of the medical department of the SS Special Service Troops as well as the Medical Office of the Waffen SS. In 1940, Mrugowsky took part in the conquest of the Western European neighboring lands as the troop physician of an SS “Das Reich” Division

, Joachim Mrugowsky was implicated in all of the non-volunteer human experiments conducted on concentration camp prisoners and prosecuted at the Nuremberg Medical Trial.
He led, among other things, in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, the experiment of ammunition poisoned with Aconitine and the shooting of concentration camp prisoners with it. Two inmates were shot through the femur, but because they showed no toxicity, they stopped the experiment. The poisonous ammunition got stuck in the thighs of three prisoners. Mrugowsky recorded during their death: “The one poisoned tried in vain to vomit. In order to achieve this, he stuck four fingers of his hand deeply into his mouth up to the base joints. Nevertheless, no vomiting started. threw them down again, rolled their eyes, made senseless movements with their hands and arms. … Death occurred 121, 123 and 129 minutes after receiving the shot. ”

During the Doctors Trial, Mrugowsky was charged with war crimes, crimes against humanity and membership of a criminal organization (SS). He was condemned to death in August 1947, and executed-hanged, age 44, on 02-06-1948 in the Landsberg prison and buried with his collogues on the Landsberg Prison Spöttinger Cemetery next to other hanged war criminals, SS Standartenführer, Adjudant from Reichsführer Himmler, Rudolf Brandt, SS Obergruppenführer, Gauleiter and Reichsstatthalter (Reich Governor) of Mecklenburg, Karl Hildebrandt,
SS Hauptscharfführer, head of the Crematoria of Auschwitz, Otto Moll,
SS Brigadeführer, Kommandant of Einsatzgruppe B, Erich Naumann, the organiser of the Euthanasia Programme, Action T4, Victor Brack, and SS Obergruppenführer, Oswald Pohl.
All the bronze plates are removed from the crosses now, as the population of Landsberg protested against the mixed graveyard with murders and their victims.
