Harm, Hermann, born on 30-09-1894 in Halle an der Saale,

was the son of a railroad inspector and studied electronics before the outbreak of the First World War. He participated in the first war and after the war he ruled his country seat. He became a member of the NSDAP

, his number was 204.385 and SA member in 1930. Harm announced to the SS in February 1932 with number 21.342. He was commander of the II Sturmbann of the 40
th SS Standarte

in Kiel for half a year and was assigned as commander of the 4
th SS Standarte

in Hartenholm, his own town. From March 1933 until December 1933 he was the leader of the Company “Nord”, following Führer in the SS Abschnitt XIV in Bremen, till March 1935 and leader of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt, under
Reinhard Heydrich.

From April 1937 until June 1938 he was with the Court Office of the Reichsführer SS Staff and became a SS-Ehrenführer. From July 1942 he was the SS- und Polizeiführer with the Höheren SSPF „Rußland-Süd“ under
Hans-Adolf Prützmann, Prützmann committed suicide, age 44, on 21-05-1945, in Lüneburg. In August 1942 Harm was the SS Polizei Führer of Dnjeprotpetrowsk, following of Russia South, until July 1943.

His task were special affairs against the partisan in Pripjetsümpfen. From July 1943 to April 194 he was the SS Polizei Führer of Lithouwen, following the highest Polizei Führer “ Ükraine”. His last command was as the Adjutant under the Haupt SS Polizei Führer ”Alpenland” under Obergruppenführer of the SS, Erwin Rösener, Rösener was hanged in Ljubljana, age 44, on 04-09-1946. Total casualties amongst the Waffen-SS
will probably never be known, but one estimate indicates that they suffered 180.000 dead, 400.000 wounded, and 40.000 missing. World War II casualties indicates that the Waffen-SS suffered 314.000 killed and missing, or 34.9 per cent. By comparison, the United States Army suffered 318.274 killed and missing in all theatres of the war.

After the war Harm retreated to his country seat in Hartenholm and died at the very old age of 91, on 28-11-1985. Hermann Harm is buried with his wife Martha, born Rottgardt, who died age 81, on 06-04-1983, on the Stadtfriedhof of Hartenholm.
