Grun, Edgar, born 06-09-1876 in Dastoff, Baden, entered the Army Service, on 14-02-1895, age 19, as a Fähnrich in the 58th Infantry Regiment. He was in the fields of the first war and ended as Company Chief, Battalion leader and adjutant in the XXXIX Replacement Corps. Grun retired on 15-06-1921, reactivated in the Army again on 01-10-1933, as a Territorial Officer and Supplemental Officer until 05-03-1935. Until the outbreak of World War II he was Commander of Military Command Naumburg, Saale, but retired on 31-08-1939, one day before the war. He was placed to disposal of the Army. Grun was assigned as commander of Military Command Halle, Saale, until 01-07-1942. He then landed in the infamous Führer Reserve until 31-08-1942 and not useful and too old, age 66, for Adolf Hitler’s (did you know), (see Hitler Paula) war fare retired. The Führerreserve (“Officers Reserve”)
was set up in 1939 as a pool of temporarily unoccupied high military officers waiting for new assignments in the German Armed Forces during World War II. The various military branches and army groups each had their own pool which they could use as they saw fit. The officers were required to remain at their assigned stations and be available to their superiors, but could not exercise any command function, which was equivalent to a temporary retirement while retaining their previous income. Especially in the second half of the war, more and more politically problematic, troublesome, or militarily incompetent officers were assigned to the Führerreserve.
